Epidemiology of Vasomotor Rhinitis
Vasomotor rhinitis is the most common form of nonallergic rhinitis, comprising approximately 71% of all nonallergic rhinitis conditions. Although the epidemiology of this subtype of nonallergic rhinitis has not been definitively studied, it is estimated that 14 million Americans suffer from vasomotor rhinitis, with a worldwide prevalence approaching 320 million.
متن کاملCharacteristics of Nonallergic Vasomotor Rhinitis
Nonallergic rhinitis (NAR) conditions are currently considered diagnoses by exclusion. A diagnosis of NAR requires negative specific IgE responses by skin or serologic testing and more recently testing to exclude localized production of specific IgE in the nose. Symptoms are classically aggravated by irritant triggers such as tobacco smoke, perfumes/fragrances, and temperature or barometric pre...
متن کاملNasal wall compliance in vasomotor rhinitis.
Nasal compliance is a measure related to the blood volume in the nasal mucosa. The objective of this study was to better understand the vascular response in vasomotor rhinitis by measuring nasal cross-sectional area and nasal compliance before and after mucosal decongestion in 10 patients with vasomotor rhinitis compared with 10 healthy subjects. Nasal compliance was inferred by measuring nasal...
متن کاملRadiofrequency for the treatment of vasomotor rhinitis.
OBJECTIVES We assessed the efficacy of submucosal application of radiofrequency to the inferior turbinate for the treatment of vasomotor rhinitis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Twenty patients with vasomotor rhinitis (9 males, 11 females; mean age 29.2 years; range 20 to 40 years) were treated with radiofrequency applied to the inferior turbinate. Symptoms such as nasal obstruction, sneezing, and wate...
متن کاملSensitization to Aspergillus antigens in perennial rhinitis.
This study was conducted to determine the frequency of sensitization to Aspergillus antigens in 27 patients with perennial rhinitis. Immediate cutaneous reactivity was observed in 7 (26%) patients. In 3 of these 7 patients, hypersensitivity was restricted to Aspergillus antigens alone. One patient had an isolated late cutaneous reaction. Hypersensitivity was observed most commonly with A. flavu...
